Crossroads has been awarded a £100k donation from BARCLAYS 100x100 UK COVID-19 COMMUNITY RELIEF PROGRAMME in recognition of our vital work supporting local communities during the Covid-19 pandemic across Oxfordshire, West Berkshire, and the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead.
Oxfordshire Crossroads Care was chosen by the Barclays selection committee because of its unfailing commitment to providing home care services for children and families, the elderly and disabled. During the lockdown, despite the increased demand on our services, we provided additional welfare checks for self-isolating clients, making sure they had food and supplies. We also made daily phonecalls to combat loneliness and mobilised skilled workers to carry out emergency DIY. tasks.
Building on this, the £100k donation from BARCLAYS enables us to launch the CROSSROADS COMMUNITY RELIEF PROJECT, aimed at providing respite care and help for unpaid carers across our region. Shielding loved ones, carers have bravely shouldered the burden of care during the pandemic, dealing with heightened levels of exhaustion, isolation and loneliness. It is hoped that up to 600 carers and their families will benefit from the project, to run from October 1st 2020 until January 2021.
The CROSSROADS COMMUNITY RELIEF PROGRAMME will provide:
A full-time member of staff to regularly call carers, to reduce social isolation and offer remote support.
Direct care to support any person with care needs. This includes shopping and prescription deliveries where needed.
A Property Maintenance Worker to support carers by doing jobs around the home and garden.
A Benefit Fund to assist care workers, who have lost their income but could not be furloughed.
BARCLAYS Chairman, Nigel Higgins, said: "COVID-19 has created an unprecedented social and economic impact in the UK, with many experiencing greater hardship due to the crisis. Incredible charities, such as OXFORDSHIRE CROSSROADS CARE, have been playing a vital role in the UK's response to the pandemic, ensuring urgent help reaches those most in need of support. As a bank we have been doing all we can for our customers, clients and colleagues, and we hope that by partnering with Oxfordshire Crossroads Care and many other charities across the UK, collectively we can ensure that as many people as possible in the communities in which we live and work are supported through this crisis."
